NEW Cover Crop Selection Tool

Cover crop information to help with planning and on-farm decision making

Cover crops nourish our soil and subsequent cash crops while providing benefits, including erosion control, reduced compaction and increased resilience in drought. Industry and producers continue to learn more about cover crops and their unique traits, but with the many agronomic variables, it can take time to sort out the possibilities.

The Cover Crop Selection Tool was designed to help producers make agronomic decisions on cover crops for their rotations or grazing plans based on region, field conditions and goals. This new tool was founded on the Midwest Cover Crop Councils Tool and uses Eastern Canada-specific data from a team of cover crop experts such as researchers, extension specialists and industry personnel.

  • Learn more about cover crops that are suitable for your region

  • Decide which cover crops will help you achieve goals for your farm such as soil building, good grazing, or nitrogen scavenging

  • Based on cover crop data for provinces in Eastern Canada

  • Detailed information on planting, termination, traits, advantages and disadvantages for different species
